In March 2022, a new course started at the Vocational Training Centre in Chimoio, Mozambique. This was the first of its kind and a completely new venture for the staff at the Centre to co-ordinate. The course was in baking, although they use the Portuguese word confeitaria which translates as confectionary in English. The training lasted for one month and was held twice per week, with each lesson being 3 hours long. The course was run by Lucia, who is a friend of Wanderley and Rosaria, our resident missionaries in Mozambique. There were eight students in total, as Rosaria also joined in the fun. Each week the students would learn new skills and put their new-found talents to the test. I’m sure you will agree that some of their creations are worthy of ‘The Great British Bake Off’!
Wanderley said, ‘It was a joy and pleasure to have the students with us for a course like this.’ The team are very thankful to the Lord for helping them make this happen. New courses like this are invaluable, as they not only teach people new skills, but can allow them to use these skills to earn an income to support themselves and their families.
