In October 2021 the Baruk Centre in Chimoio, where our missionaries Wanderley and Rosaria da Silva are based, held their first fashion show. The da Silvas were still in USA at the time of this show, which demonstrates how well they have trained their staff at the Centre in Mozambique.

The bright, colourful display of African clothes was held to recognise the work the young people had been doing. All the clothes had been made in the tailor shop at the Centre. During the fashion show there was a display of clothes, umbrellas, hats and other items. There were a variety of styles on show, from casual wear to more sophisticated business wear. All of the clothes were uniquely designed by the students and there was something for all – men, women and children were all catered for!

They were honoured to have the mayor, Dr João, and some local dignitaries attending the event, which was also covered by the local media. This was the first event of this nature and they received great praise. They are already thinking about planning a further event.

The models were mostly staff from the Centre, with support from some family members who also joined in the fun.

It is wonderful to see all the different designs of clothes and to hear of the various opportunities being provided for the young people. Tailoring is such a valuable skill and, when done well, it can lead to providing an income to support their families.
