We are delighted to provide a report on the progress of the exciting projects currently being undertaken at the Lwamba hospital in Congo.

In 2020, the construction of an operation block for the Lwamba hospital began by the team in Lwamba. Paul Stephenson, CAM Trustee, had planned to visit Congo and help with the construction but, due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, he was unable to go.  He very capably co-ordinated the building work from the UK, using mobile phone and WhatsApp to communicate.

The team at Lwamba made excellent progress on the hospital block. They worked hard to prepare the foundations, build the external and internal walls, and install window frames and doors. As travel restrictions lifted, Paul was finally able to make his long-awaited trip, arriving in Lwamba on 12 August 2022. He will be in Congo for around 12 weeks to support the team in completing the hospital block construction.

A second project is to instal a new hydro-electric system to replace the old one which provided fresh drinking water to the Lwamba village, and electricity for the hospital.  The old system has been in situ for 30 years and needs replacing.

The new system has been designed by Christian Engineers in Development (CED).  Paul Stephenson and Nick Delport have worked closely with CED to plan and test the system, which is now ready to be sent by container and will eventually arrive in Lwamba sometime next year.

During his visit this year, Paul will also oversee the reconstruction of the building which will house the hydro system. In 2023 Paul will return to Lwamba, with Nick Delport, to oversee its installation.  With the hospital being so isolated and difficult to reach, your prayers that all will go smoothly would be greatly appreciated.

As you can imagine, the costs for both projects are considerable, and we are extremely thankful for the funds donated so far. If you would like to support these ventures financially, you can do so in a number of ways. Please contact us to find out more information or click on the link http://www.give.net/LwambaAppeal
