Chris and Robin Kretschman left the USA earlier this year, and arrived at Nyangombe, Zambia for full-time missionary service. When they arrived, they thought, ‘This will be spiritually fulfilling and a great adventure.’ Now, looking back on their first year they realise that they have had much to learn.
For instance:
- Did you know that when you fill your bath with river water, you can’t see the bottom of the bath? They didn’t!
- Did you also know that immersion heaters have to be turned off every morning or you will overload the electrical system for the entire mission station, leaving everyone without power? They didn’t! But they do now!
- Did you know that kids eat swarming termites like they are sweets? They didn’t! But is was fun to watch them run around and chase them.
- Did you know that using the internet gobbles data and your computing service will be shut off when your data runs out … or that smart phones aren’t so smart when you’re in the bush? They didn’t!
Chris wrote recently, ‘We have learned so much this first year in the bush and know that this is God’s will. However, it is clear to us that as we observe the smiling faces of the children, the interest of the Bible School students, and witness so many accepting Christ as their Lord and Saviour, it has been very spiritually fulfilling and continues to be a great adventure!’
