Paul Stephenson has just returned to the UK following his three-month visit to Lwamba hospital. While he was there, he completed the building of the turbine house in preparation for the new hydro-electric system which will be installed in 2023. He also worked extremely hard, together with a local team, to put the finishing touches to the new hospital block. The hospital and project staff are thrilled with the progress that has been made.
The work has all been carried out by Paul on a voluntary basis. We are very thankful to him for his dedication to the people and the work of the hospital.
But his work was appreciated. While in Lwamba, an elderly pastor visited Paul. He was 109 years old! Pastor Nkundwe-Mulanda had faithfully pastored a church for many years. He was brought to see Paul on a bicycle, with one man steering while two others supported him as he sat on the parcel rack. Paul felt extremely humbled and brought to tears that someone who could hardly walk should go to such lengths to travel to greet and thank him. Sadly, Pastor Mulanda passed away shortly after the visit, but Paul was privileged to make him a coffin and then join hundreds of others at the funeral, to celebrate his life and service.
Paul also received visits from many children, eager to see the daily progress of the work. It is encouraging to see how God continues to bless and provide for the work of the hospital at Lwamba.
