In February this year, Kym Delport visited Buluo prison, 80 miles away from Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was accompanied by Pastor Banza and Mama Mangasa, both of whom are prison chaplains, well known and respected by staff and prisoners in several prisons.
As Administrator of CAM International, Kym must ensure that funds sent for the work are being used for the purpose for which they are given. While doing so, she had a great opportunity to see the love of Jesus being taught and shown by those we partner with in DRC.
Banza took along sacks of flour to help provide meals for the prisoners. He also provided bread and juice for communion, and went prepared to baptise 22 candidates. We praise God that His Word is changing lives and people are coming to know and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
After the service, Kym was shown around the prison complex. Every square inch of available land was covered with crops grown by the prisoners themselves. The vision of the prison Director is to make the place self-sufficient and to provide skills training at the same time so that prisoners can use their skills for work when they leave, rather than returning to a life of crime. Needless to say, the inmates were looking well, and there was a positive atmosphere in the place.
The ultimate aim of CAM International is to see people coming to know and follow Jesus Christ. However, being able to help practically is also a Biblical principle, and brings us joy.
